Benefits vary depending on the plan selected
Here’s a big-picture look at what MASA offers our members. Please note: Benefits described below aren’t available on all plans. If you’re interested in purchasing a plan, please schedule a consultation to learn more about the plans that best suit your needs. If you’re currently a member, please refer to your Member Services Agreement (MSA) or policy for your coverage by logging into your member portal.
Emergency Ground Ambulance Coverage
MASA will help cover eligible out-of-pocket expenses incurred by ground ambulance transportation services resulting from a serious emergency to the nearest and most appropriate medical facility or suitable airport.
Emergency Air Ambulance Coverage
MASA will help cover eligible out-of-pocket expenses associated with emergent fixed-wing and rotary aircraft transport. All flights must be ordered by a first responder or transferring physician who deems air transport as medically necessary.
Hospital to Hospital Air Ambulance Coverage
MASA will help cover eligible out-of-pocket expenses associated with physician-ordered hospital-to-hospital ground ambulance transportation in cases where a specialized level of care is not available at their current facility.
Hospital Private Room Upgrade
MASA will reimburse eligible expenses for choosing a private hospital room after using emergency transportation coverage and are exposed to out-of-pocket expenses as a result.
Post-Admission Continued Care Transportation Coverage
MASA will reimburse eligible expenses up to $500 for non-emergency ground transportation to and between the medical facility, rehabilitation facility, skilled nursing facility, long-term care facility, hospice facility, or back home to attain continued care resulting from an emergency.
Repatriation to Hospital Near Home Coverage
MASA will help coordinate and provide coverage for eligible expenses associated with a ground or air ambulance to transport to a medical facility near home to recuperate closer to family and in familiar surroundings if hospitalized more than 100 miles away from home.
Minor Return Transportation Coverage
MASA provides informational support and covers the eligible expenses for a one-way common carrier air transport for the return of a minor (below the age of 18) to the commercial airport nearest their residence if left unattended due to an ambulance transport while more than 100 miles away from home.
Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren Protection
MASA will provide coverage for all Emergency Shield plan benefits (excluding Emergency Air Ambulance Coverage and Hospital to Hospital Ambulance Coverage) for a member’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren up to the age of 14.
Extended Hospital Stay Incidental Expense Coverage
MASA will reimburse eligible expenses for incidentals incurred if a member is hospitalized over 100 miles from home for an extended period of 7 days or more (including hotels, food, transportation, and more). (Limited to two claims per consecutive 12-month period beginning from plan effective date.)
Patient Return Transportation Coverage
MASA will help coordinate and provide coverage for a commercial flight back to the member’s residence once discharged from the hospital following an emergency occurring 100 miles away from home.
Companion Emergency Transportation Coverage
MASA will help cover eligible out-of-pocket expenses incurred from having a companion accompany a member in an emergency transportation vehicle.
Companion Return Transportation Coverage
If hospitalized more than 100 miles from home, MASA will help coordinate and provide coverage for the eligible expenses associated with return transportation for a companion from the inpatient hospitalization location back to their home.
Hospital Visitor Ground Transportation Expense Coverage
For emergencies that happen near home, MASA will reimburse a visitor’s eligible expenses related to parking and taxi/ride share expenses up to $200 for a companion of choice to visit during an inpatient hospital stay. (Limited to two claims per consecutive 12-month period beginning from plan effective date.)
Organ Recipient Transportation
MASA will help coordinate and provide coverage for the eligible out-of-pocket expenses associated with the air transportation expenses for a member to fly to the commercial airport nearest the medical facility for a scheduled organ transplant.
Hospital to Hospital Ground Ambulance Coverage
MASA will help cover eligible out-of-pocket expenses associated with physician-ordered hospital-to-hospital ground ambulance transportation in cases where a specialized level of care is not available at their current facility.
Hospital Visitor Air Transportation Expense Coverage
MASA will help coordinate and provide coverage for a round-trip ticket of a visitor of the member’s choice to be by their side when an emergency occurs more than 100 miles from home.
Vehicle and RV Return Coverage
MASA will help coordinate and provide coverage for the return of owned vehicles to a member’s residence or rental vehicles to the appropriate company if a member is taken away from a vehicle or RV as a result of emergency transportation. Coverage includes the costs of fuel, oil, and qualified driver.
Pet Return Transportation Coverage
MASA provides informational support and covers the eligible expenses for the return of a pet(s) if left as a result of an ambulance transport while more than 100 miles away from home.
Organ Retrieval Transportation
MASA will help cover the eligible out-of-pocket expenses associated with the transportation of an organ to be retrieved and used for a member’s organ transplant.
Mortal Remains Return Transportation Coverage
MASA provides informational support and provides coverage for reimbursement for eligible expenses incurred for the transportation of a member’s mortal remains back to their area of residence via air, ground, or ferry, in the event member passes away while more than 100 miles away from home.
Physician Search
MASA will assist in locating a licensed physician if a member needs medical care while abroad. Exclusive to Lifetime plans.
Nurse Helpline
In the event a less urgent medical condition arises while out of the country, MASA will connect a member to a registered nurse for guidance. Exclusive to Lifetime plans.
Attorney Search
MASA will assist a member to find a licensed attorney who better understands the legal system of the country they are in should legal services be required. Exclusive to Lifetime plans.
Translation Services
When an emergency occurs in a location where a member does not speak the native language, MASA will provide telephonic access to a translator to help provide the vital information required. Exclusive to Lifetime plans.
Global Advisor
MASA will provide tailored guidance on the latest health and safety information for a member’s chosen destination to be better prepared to explore unfamiliar places with confidence and peace of mind. Exclusive to Lifetime plans.
Emergency Message Relay Center
MASA will assist the relay of messages from the member and physician back to loved ones with latest updates. Exclusive to Lifetime plans.
Prepay Foreign Currency Emergency Transportation Coverage
In the event foreign currency is required to prepay for emergency transportation, MASA will provide coverage up to $50,000 for the member to be medically transported. Exclusive to Lifetime plans.
Concierge Service
MASA will assist with coordinating a return back home as a result of an emergency disrupting travel, including transportation schedules, luggage retrieval, visas, and other items to ensure that a member has information, documents necessary when abroad, and belongings to return home. Exclusive to Lifetime plans.
Sick While Away From Home Expense Protection
MASA will reimburse eligible expenses for contracting a communicable disease or becoming too ill to return home while more than 100 miles away from home (includes accommodation, meals, testing, medical facility visit to attain proof, and airline re-booking). (Limited to two claims per consecutive 12-month period beginning from plan effective date.)
Medical Payments Advisor
MASA’s professional advisors will help verify policy enrollment, confirm medical benefits coverage, provide guidance on medical expenses due, and more for medical bills resulting from an inpatient medical stay.
Cruise Ship Evacuation Coverage
MASA will help cover eligible out-of-pocket expenses for physician-ordered air ambulance transportation off a cruise ship in cases where a specialized level of care is not available on the ship. Exclusive to Emergency Shield Plus plans.
Cruise Ship Return Transportation Coverage
As a result of a physician ordered air ambulance transport off a cruise ship, MASA will help coordinate and provide coverage for eligible expenses associated with a one-way airfare ticket for a member and a companion to return to the airport nearest to the cruise to continue the trip in the case the cruise is still mid-voyage. Exclusive to Emergency Shield Plus plans.
Transportation Interruption Expense Protection
MASA will reimburse eligible expenses due to unexpected airline transportation delay, cancellation, or missed flight due to a Serious Emergency while outside the United States. (Limited to two claims per consecutive 12-month period beginning from plan effective date.) Exclusive to Emergency Shield Plus plans.
Worldwide Emergency Ground Ambulance Coverage
MASA will reimburse eligible expenses for ground ambulance transportation services resulting from a serious emergency to the nearest and most appropriate medical facility or suitable airport while outside the United States. Exclusive to Emergency Shield Plus plans.
Worldwide Emergency Air Ambulance Coverage
MASA will reimburse eligible expenses for air ambulance transportation services resulting from a serious emergency to the nearest and most appropriate medical facility or suitable airport while outside the United States. Exclusive to Emergency Shield Plus plans.
Worldwide Hospital to Hospital Ground Ambulance Coverage
MASA will reimburse eligible expenses for a physician-ordered hospital-to-hospital ground ambulance transportation in cases where a specialized level of care is not available at a member’s current facility while outside the United States. Exclusive to Emergency Shield Plus plans.
Worldwide Hospital to Hospital Air Ambulance Coverage
MASA will reimburse eligible expenses for a physician-ordered hospital-to-hospital air ambulance transportation in cases where a specialized level of care is not available at a member’s current facility while outside the United States. Exclusive to Emergency Shield Plus plans.
Worldwide Vehicle & RV Return Coverage
MASA will reimburse eligible expenses for the return of rented or owned vehicles to a member’s accommodations or residence, or rental vehicles to the appropriate company, when left due to a member’s emergency transport while outside the United States. Exclusive to Emergency Shield Plus plans.
Hospitalization Indemnity Protection Coverage
MASA will provide an indemnity coverage of up to $5,000 when a member is admitted for an inpatient medical stay resulting from serious emergency while outside the United States. Exclusive to Emergency Shield Plus Lifetime plans.
