Emergency Air Ambulance

If you find yourself in an emergency situation that requires air transportation to a hospital, the last thing you need to worry about is the cost. That’s where MASA’s Emergency Air Ambulance membership benefit comes in. It’s a core benefit in most MASA plans, designed to provide you with financial protection and peace of mind. By protecting you from the potentially high costs of emergency air transportation, we ensure that you can focus on your health, not your bills.

What is Emergency Air Ambulance?

Emergency Air Ambulance membership benefit is a comprehensive solution that ensures you won’t be burdened with an expensive bill from a medical transport provider should you need to be transported by helicopter or airplane during an emergency. You can rely on MASA to reimburse your eligible out-of-pocket expenses for your emergency air transportation to a medical facility.

Why do I need Emergency Air Ambulance?

According to industry research, the average cost of an air ambulance ride in the United States is nearly $51,000.1 Internally, we’ve seen an average cost of more than $69,000.2 While most health insurance policies provide some coverage for air ambulance flights, there are often restrictions that apply. The insurance company may not contract with the ambulance company that picks you up, making your flight “out-of-network,” or they may require a copayment, deductible, and coinsurance. With our protection, you don’t have to worry about getting hit with a hefty bill.

Emergency Air Ambulance in action

Imagine what might happen if you were injured in a hiking accident and required immediate medical attention. Air ambulance is the only way to transport you quickly from the remote hiking location to a hospital. A few months later, while you are recovering at home, you receive a bill for the air ambulance service that transported you to the trauma center. Your primary health insurance covered some of the bill, but you still owe $44,000. Fortunately, you have Emergency Air Ambulance membership benefit with MASA, and you submit your bill to us through your online account. MASA’s team advocates for you and works with your transport provider to ensure your bill is paid in full.
